Autumn’s In The Air
October what does it mean to you?
‘October is crisp days and cool nights, a time to curl up around the dancing flames and sink into a good book’. Anon
In October our thoughts naturally turn to cool, colourful days and the first faint inkling that the year is over. Maybe you are one of those who considers October very special because it holds memorable dates, birthdays, wedding anniversaries and Halloween.
October is a month full of interesting anniversaries: Battle of Hastings 14th October 1066, Winnie the Pooh first published also 14th October 1926 and Blue Peter first broadcast 16th October 1958 to name but a few.
Traditionally it is the time to celebrate harvest in schools and churches up and down the country. It is also the month when those glorious large spider webs appear in the gardens draped with crystal drops after the rain. I’ve never managed to work out when or where they actually disappear, but suddenly they’re gone. There is so much beauty around but we need to stop and look. Sadly we’re often too busy rushing around in our 24/7 world that we miss some of these treasures.
As the evenings get shorter and the clocks going back with the end of British summer time on 29th October an air of sadness sometimes almost depression creeps in. How do you overcome it - I’d love to know drop me an email.
My suggestion to keep you positive at this time is to think of all the things that you are grateful for, make a list and once you start you’ll be amazed, from nature to family and friends to food and laughter, and much more I’m sure.
Make yourself a Gratitude Diary, using a note book, write down each day all those things that you were grateful for. Happy Writing, Cecily (01903 600213).
