Cortis Avenue Wildlife Garden
The first community garden in Worthing is being transformed from a neglected, fly-tipped site into a peaceful place for everyone. Hidden away in Cortis Avenue, Broadwater, local people have been cleaning up and planting wildlife hedges. The site has been given lots of love, time and effort and there’s growing talk about the new garden and its community benefits.
The garden needs funds to complete its transformation. Many Broadwater shoppers at The Co-operative store will have a Co-op members card and can use that to vote for Cortis Avenue Wildlife Garden to win £2,000 in the The Co-operative Members Big Community Vote 2011.
Winning would mean the garden can afford essential equipment and features like paths for wheelchair access, a community orchard and a wildlife pond.
Voting is online at http://bigcommunityvote.co-operative.coop until 30 July. A taste of what’s happening can be seen online at YouTube.com ‘A community garden for Worthing’
There is an open day on Saturday 9 July 10am - 4pm, with a practical session on Fruit tree planting and growing advice between 10.30am - 12.30pm. Admission is always free to the garden and there’s no need to book, just come along and find out what’s happening in Broadwater’s secret garden. For more information E: T: 07968 574910
