Do you know what AskDES could do for you?
Are you looking for affordable second hand disability equipment, or do you have an item you wish to sell? AskDES is a very popular service run by the charity WSAD which allows you to do just this. AskDES provides people with the opportunity to buy and sell second hand disability equipment, through a dedicated website www.askdes.org.uk and through a quarterly brochure. People can also ring up the WSAD Information and Advice line at 01903 244 457 to get up-to-date listings of items for sale.
Although most of the people using the service are based in West Sussex, there is occasionally national or even international interest in items. Recently, a recent customer got in touch with us to let us know that after unsuccessfully trying to sell a scooter on ebay, he found out about AskDES and placed an advert. Within a couple of weeks, had enquiries from people wanting to purchase the scooter from all over West Sussex, as well as Dublin and Glasgow! The scooter was eventually shipped up to Scotland using a local pallet shipping firm, to a very satisfied new owner.
WSAD volunteer Denise, who runs AskDES says, “AskDES works so well because it is a niche service, linking up specialist equipment with people who will really benefit from it. It also saves useful items, like scooters and wheelchairs, from being disposed of in landfill. It is shocking how many people think this is the only option for used disability equipment which could really make a difference to someone’s quality of life.”
