Durrington Country Markets

Country Markets have been trading for over 90 years with markets all over England and Wales. Until a few years ago we were known as WI Markets but this had to change a few years ago to conform to charity laws.
We used to have about 2 dozen Country Markets in West Sussex but now we are down to about eight. With out the backing of WI things have been very much more difficult. There was a Country Market in Broadwater a few years ago and also one in Heene but sadly both had to close. However, we in Durrington have been trading for over 30 years and we’d like to go on.
• We sell cakes and savouries, preserves, home grown fruit, vegetables and plants.
• We have locally produced eggs and some very nice craft.
• Where possible we used locally produced ingredients for our cooking and all our food is hygienically packed and all our cooks have to re-sit the hygiene certificate on a regular basis.
During the year we have several special days like Marmalade day or Bramley apple day when we cook special items or let customers have a taste. We shall be having a Marmalade Day on Thursday March 10th.
To stay viable we desperately need more customers.
As we are a co-operative we pay for the goods supplied and charge a commission which covers the cost of the hall, our levy to the National Markets etc. This leaves us very little to spend on such things as advertising. So I hope you can give us some publicity. Especially with the Marmalade Day.
We are open from 10 – 11 am every Thursday at St. Symphorian’s Church hall in New Road, opposite The Lamb.
We serve tea and coffee and if you would like to visit us yourself we should be very pleased to see you.
