Exercise? - am I too old to exercise?
In my job, I often meet people who tell me that they are too old to exercise even if it would be greatly beneficial to them.
'You are NEVER too old to exercise!’ Here are a few reasons why...
With age, joints become stiffer especially if you have arthritis. Muscles become weaker as we get older, and a sedentary lifestyle will make it worse. These in turn will bring pain and discomfort. All of these together will increase the risk of falls and could reduce your confidence.
But there is hope; exercise can help!
People who exercise regularly experience 25% less muscle and joint pain in old age! Exercise improves balance, reducing the risk of falls. It also reduces depression and anxiety, improves memory and helps you meet new people...
Where do I find an exercise class?
There are so many around it would be hard to list them all but feel free to ring me or come and see us at the usual place:
Broadwater Parish Room, 6th and 20th of August, 3 - 3.30 PM
Also, every Friday afternoon at 2PM we organise a Tai-chi Session for people who want to do some gentle exercise in a relaxed atmosphere (Broadwater Parish room).
By the way, to exercise does not mean running a marathon or going to the gym! Walking for example is already a great way to get fitter.
