Front Cover - Artist Nick Hebditch
Brighton’s majestic West Pier, Illustrated on the front cover, was a long time favourite location of Tonbridge based artist Nick Hebitch.
Nick, who’s paintings and prints largely feature architecture and buildings, was fascinated by the fading glory of this grand icon.
In the last decade or so of the piers life before the devastating fire the gradual decay seemed only to enhance the topsy turvy fantasy quality of the edifice. Oriental domes and turrets pointed upwards rakishly askew. Slanting signs, pagoda like structures and kiosks tilting at bizarre angles added to the fairground exoticism of the place.
Nick produced many prints and paintings of the West Pier and continues to be inspired both by other examples of oriental style architecture around Brighton as well as more tradition views.
These and other themes can be seen in his Open Studio Exhibition held at 55 Deakin Leas, Tonbridge, Kent, TN9 2JS, between June 5th – 19th. Saturday to Monday 11 – 6 pm. He will also be exhibiting work with Genty Fine Art at 6 Fitzroy Square, London W1T 5DX, 9th – 11th June, and at a number of other shows in Blackheath, Henley and elsewhere in the country over the next few months.
