Gaisford Ward Newsletter - July

The Local Priorities for Gaisford set by the Panel at the last meeting on 12th May 2010
1. Maintaining a level of anti-social behaviour.
2. More Police Patrols at night to monitor anti-social driving.
3. Alley Way fly tipping.

The next panel meeting is to be held on July 14th 19:00 2010 19:00 hours at the Millennium Hall in Worthing High School , South Farm Road, Worthing. This is to the left of school when entering the car park.

DISTRACTION BURGLARIES
Unfortunately we have had another distraction burglary on the Ward near to location last month.  This happened in Carnegie Road 18/05/10 and reported 19/05/10 serial 948 refers.  Access was gained by imitating The Water Board ,reporting a leak in the road, on gaining entry householder was asked to empty cupboard underneath sink.  This resulted in £150 being taken from an upstairs bedroom.  A further incident with the same ploy happened in Durrington 29/05/10  where £1500 was reported taken.

Please take care when allowing workmen into your homes.  If they are genuine they will understand if you check company’s name name and call using phone directory for contact number.  If you are unsure or have any worries do not let them in.

The company they work for will be able to supply details to you if they are working in the area and give names of who they will be sending to your area. If at all suspicious use non emergency no, 0845 6070999.

Please be aware that calls have been made about a company  phoning to offer cheap advertising. If in doubt DO NOT give any bank details over the phone or to anyone calling at your door.

ANTI – SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
 With the lighter evenings reports of youths drinking alcohol in local parks have been called in.  Patrols will be continued in the parks to help combat this .

02/05/10  Eggs were thrown at a house in Loder Gardens.

04/05/10 Grounds at Pavilion Rd  Bowling Club were entered and the rubber pellets from the surrounding ditch were used to Graffiti a large part of the green.  The fencing was also damaged on same evening.

19/05/10 Worthing Football Club , Woodside Rd, had wooden seats ripped out with no permanent damage.

VEHICLE THEFT - DAMAGE
Two vehicles in Wiston Ave. had damage resulting with a wing mirror removed and one damaged along with rear wipers pulled off.

BICYCLES
Three reports of theft this month  two from Worthing High  one from King Edward Ave.
Several bikes have been recovered found at locations on the Ward in May and booked into lost property.  Remember to secure bicycles with a good quality lock when not in use even if you are only leaving unattended for a few minutes.

MOBILE PHONES
Two mobile phones taken this month one from Worthing High and one from KFC Broadwater Rd.

GRAFFITI HOTLINE
Worthing Borough Council, with the help of West Sussex and Adur councils, has a free graffiti cleaning service. It is available to residents and businesses of all sizes, denominations and tenancies. All it takes is for you to contact us.

We remove swearing, racism and other offensive graffiti normally within 24 working hours. The majority of other graffiti we remove within 48 hours where we can. This is influenced by the workload and weather of course. Our current record stands at 92% of all graffiti removed within 2 working days of being reported to us. Normally we do not come out on weekends or bank holidays unless the graffiti is of an extreme nature.
