Local Couple Raise Funds for The Sussex Cancer Fund

1 in 3 people in Sussex will develop cancer.  Help us help them!

In November 2005, Andrew Hicks who lives and runs his own business, Aranea Creations Ltd, in Broadwater, was diagnosed with testicular cancer and was treated like many other people at The Sussex Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

“Since that date I have been trying to think of a way not only to thank the Sussex Cancer Centre for nursing me back to health, but also to help other people in Sussex who develop cancer and are treated at the Sussex Cancer Centre.”

This April Andrew will be running, along with his wife Jo, the inaugural Brighton Marathon to raise funds for The Sussex Cancer Fund www.sussexcancerfund.co.uk.

Andrew and Jo are doing a regular blog at www.brightonmarthon-blog.co.uk, so everyone can follow their progress towards the marathon, without having to do the training yourselves!

The Sussex Cancer Fund was created in 1981 with the goal of working hand in hand with the NHS to give all Sussex cancer patients the best available treatment and facilities.  The fund also enables a detailed cancer research and education programme.

Through the generosity of Sussex people, the fund has been able to pay for additional equipment and fund new building works to improve facilities and a dedicated car park for cancer patients and their carers. The fund has also paid for a new immobilisation system for cancer patients, which is the latest technology for keeping a patient’s head positively still whilst undergoing radiotherapy treatment, maximising safety and comfort for the patient.

Please sponsor Andrew and Jo, even if it’s only a small amount, to help the fund with future projects.  Donations can be made via their blog www.brightonmarathon-blog.co.uk.

On behalf of The Sussex Cancer Fund and Andrew & Jo Hicks thanks for your support.
