Open Art Competition at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery
Open Art Competition at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery from 18th June to 24th September 2011
The judges for the Open 11 Art Competition were slightly overwhelmed to see that they had to select from over 250 artworks. The judges were Nick Toovey, local auctioneer, Dudley Sawyer, local art tutor, and Councillor Vicky Vaughan who runs a design agency.
They worked all day last Friday at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery sorting out and debating all the art work. They looked at paintings, prints, drawings, photographs and sculptures. They followed strict critea to see if the artworks fitted the three themes this year of Food for Thought, Celebrations and Sport and Fitness, and considered the quality and effort involved.
Emma Walder, Art Curator, said, “It was a long but enjoyable day. The judges were impressed by the high quality of work submitted and the wide age range of artists from 14 to 80-plus years old. We now have 6 prize winners out of the 110 artworks going on display. The names of the prize winners will be revealed at the evening Preview on Friday 17 June. A big thanks to everybody who contributed artworks for the competition.”
