West Tarring Young People's Club (WTYPC)
The junior section, for boys from 8-13 years opens every Tuesday
evening from
6 – 8.30 pm at the club headquarters’ at 9b High Street Tarring
(almost opposite the Parsonage Restaurant) and provides a wide range of
activities including Pool, Table-Tennis, Darts, Snooker, Giant Push-Ball, Dodge
Ball, Ten-pin Bowling, Air Hockey, Football, Basketball, Table Football,
computer games, a TV lounge, computer room and a snack bar. Our club HQ has
recently seen the completion of phase three of a £100,000 refurbishment program
and provides a safe pleasing environment for boys to come along and socialise
with their friends and take part in the many activities and new members are
always welcome.
We also offer off-site activities, many of which are
subsidised, including Paint- Balling,
Scuba Dive try dive sessions, computer games evenings, Go-Karting, visits to
other clubs, Basketball and Football tournaments and participation in local
events. Both our under 12’ and Under 14’s Five-a-side football teams are the
current 2009 Sussex County Champions and our junior boys were joint winners in
the 2008 Worthing Carnival with their ‘Red Barrows’ entry which they
designed themselves.
We do not have a fixed program of activities but encourage the
members to decide on which activities will take place at each club session so
that every boy gets an opportunity of having input into planning the evening.
The activities in our main hall are run by our four 14 year old Junior Leaders
who have all been with the club for more than four years as junior club members
and are all involved in local football and cricket. All of our members are free
to take part in any of the activities they wish without any pressure being put
on them to do so. The ethos of the club is that we provide a safe environment
where the members can come along and they decide how they wish to spend their
evening. We also encourage them to come up with ideas for activities they would
like to do whether it is in the club or off-site. If it is feasible then we try
to arrange it.
We have four adult leaders to oversee the club sessions and all
have either been former club members, associated with the club for many years
or parents of club members. All adult
leaders are CRB checked and always provide the supervision at off-site
activities as well as providing transport to activities away from the club. Our
junior leaders and junior helpers are an important part of managing the club
sessions and accord with our policy of encouraging the boys in responsible
decision making and becoming fully involved in all aspects of the club.
The club produces a monthly newsletter which can be found on our
website at: www.wtypc.org where you can see photos and details of the different activities we provide. There is
no annual membership fee instead the members pay £1 each time they attend a
club session.
