Worthing Croquet Club News

We have just played our first friendly match against another club in Sussex, namely Rother Valley, who made us very welcome, providing us with a super tea, what a treat - as well as the sandwiches and cake, they also provided a bowl of refreshing cherries. We even managed to beat them at croquet by winning six games to two on their superb lawns. The weather couldn’t have been better, bright sunny and warm but not too hot - just what Croquet weather should be like and set in a lovely picturesque part of West Sussex.

All Worthing Croquet Club members are given the opportunity to play matches against other clubs if they wish to and over half of our members are playing in matches against other clubs this year which we are really looking forward to.

We have held several of our American Tournament competitions already. We hold two per month and it is really good to see that our new  members, having only joined us this year, are entering into these events.

To date, the American Tournaments have been won by:-
3rd May 2010 - Winners Mike Solomons and Tess McCormack
20th May 2010 - Winners Mary Jones and Pam Haines
7th June 2010 - Winners Sylvia Wheatley and Brenda Kennard
17th June 2010 - Winners Sylvia Wheatley and Joyce Wheadon.

We do have a very special competition just for “new members” which is held in September. This is called the “New To Croquet Competition” and the winner holds the shield for one year. We always follow this competition with tea and cake especially for them.

Coming on to the inter-club games which we play on our lawns at Field Place; we are now looking forward to our main summer competition which is held in August. This is called the “David Williams Cup”. This competition includes a lunch and is very popular.

Anyone who would like to visit us are welcome to just come along to Field Place and watch us or ring Sylvia on 01903 207366.
