Worthing Horticultural Society:

Worthing Horticultural SocietyWorthing Horticultural SocietySummer Show held in large marquee on Broadwater Green on Saturday 25th June.

This event was very well supported by both exhibitors and the general public. The exhibits comprised of classes for flowers, plants, patio pots, hanging baskets, vegetables, fruit, flower arrangements and cookery. It was a really splendid show and good weather helped too. Ted Banks won the “Best in Show” award for his amazing sweet peas, and Kim King won the Best Exhibit for the flower arrangements.

There was also an Inter-Schools growing competition. Again this was very well supported. 15 schools took part and for the “Potato in a Bag” competition there were 106 entries. The best overall entry was won by Hawthorns First School – Little Owls. There were also classes for Patio Pot and Miniature Garden. Jean Griffin and Jim Buttress, from BBC Radio Sussex DigIt gardening programme, awarded the prizes.

Jean Griffin and Jim Buttress were available at the show for the general public to ask their gardening questions. There were refreshments available in the marquee, a tombola and lots of interesting stalls selling a variety of things such as jigsaws, cakes and plants.

Worthing Horticultural Society Autumn Show will be held on Saturday 3rd September at Methodist Church Hall, Broadwater Green. We hope to see many of you there.
