Worthing Model Railway Club
Worthing Model Railway Club was
established 45 years ago to provide a forum for like minded people
who are interested in model railways. The club meets every Wednesday
and Thursday from 7.30pm to 10.00pm in its own club room situated at
the back of the Charmandean Centre in Broadwater. There are currently
39 members ranging in age from teens to well into bus pass ownership.
Whilst most members are actively involved in the club’s activities,
others prefer to reminisce, offer advice or just enjoy the obligatory
cup of tea.
All members clearly enjoy a common interest in model railways, but their specific interests range not only between gauges but also aspects of the hobby. Some enjoy the scenic enhancement of layouts whilst others concentrate on track work, kit building, or modifying and repairing models. Some even venture into the often mystifying world of electronics. A number of members also have their own exhibition standard layouts.
There are several layouts in “00” and “N”, which apart from being worked on and played with on club nights, are taken to model railway exhibitions around the country, mostly within the South East. One of the club’s layouts (Nine Mills, an “N” gauge display) recently featured on the front cover with a four page spread in “Railway Modeller”, the best selling UK magazine devoted to the hobby.
Our own annual exhibition is held on the second weekend in September at Durrington High School where layouts from visiting clubs are displayed as well as there being an extensive trade presence.
